Ok, time to do big change. I've been approached with a wonderfull middleware called Sprite Manager 2. I essentially builds atlases for you and reduces the ammount of draw calls on Unity iOS. Also it animates really well. However that meant i had to trash all my plants (*sniff) to create sprites instead of my panels and then rearange them again in the curves (*double sniff) since all the old ones got deleted.
The middleware is great, the implementation still took a few days. Heres a screenshot of the sprites. There is no difference to be seen though.
